Four things we changed
The waistband
Most kids' underwear uses a separate strip of elastic that has to be tight enough to hold the garment up on its own. Ours has no separate elastic tape or strip. The waistband is two layers of the same soft modal as the rest of the garment, cut across the grain so it keeps its shape, and eased in so it sits close without pulling.
The seams
A seam matters where it sits. On the boxer briefs there is no side seam and no center back seam, because the body is cut from a single piece — so the waistband and the hips, where clothing presses on a child all day, have no seam underneath them. Both styles are sewn with a Merrow ActiveSeam at a 6 mm stitch width. On the boxer briefs the seams that do exist sit at the pouch sides and the crotch. The undies are cut as a front and a back joined at the side seam, so the undies do have a seam at each hip, and on the undies the waistband is joined to the body in the round and bartacked. On the boxer briefs the hem is a 1.5 cm turnback finished with a two-needle coverstitch; on the undies the leg is finished with an 8 mm self-fabric binding, coverstitched the same way.
The fabric
90% modal, 10% spandex.
The tags
Size and care are printed on the inside, below the waistband at center back. There is one woven label: a small flag tab on the wearer's left, caught in the waistband seam on the boxer briefs and in the side seam on the undies.
Tested, not assumed
Every style is tested by a CPSC-accepted laboratory for lead content, phthalates, and flammability. We keep the report and the certificate on file.
